The Chevy Silverado 1500 comes with a standard TurboMax engine that gets 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. You can upgrade to a 355-horsepower V8 that gets 383 pound-feet of torque or a 420-hp V8, as well as a 310-hp turbodiesel.
The base engine for the 2500 gets 401 hp and 464 pound-feet of torque. Upgrade to the available turbodiesel to experience 470 hp and 975 pound-feet of torque. Both Chevy Silverado 2500 engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. You can also get a Trail Boss trim on either model for trail-riding equipment like off-road-tuned suspension.
Towing and Hauling Capabilities
The Chevy Silverado 1500 can haul up to 2,260 pounds and tow up to 13,300 pounds. The Chevy Silverado 2500 pushes the limits to 7,237 pounds for hauling and 36,000 pounds for trailering. Both trucks come with either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. For the 1500, you can select a 5’8″, 6’6″, or 8′ bed. The 2500 comes with either a 6’10” or 8’2″ bed.
Driver Assistance
Both models come with standard safety tech like intelligent high beams, lane keep assist, pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, and forward automatic emergency braking. You’ll also have the Teen Driver system, which provides speed limits and other controls for specific key fobs.
You can also add adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and more. The Silverado 1500 earned a five-star overall crash test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2500 hasn’t yet been tested by the agency.
Cab Space and Features
The Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2500 can accommodate between three and six passengers with your choice of a Regular, Crew, or Double Cab. Both trucks include standard vinyl upholstery, automatic climate control, and a rearview camera.
You’ll also have a generous standard tech package with a 7-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The 1500 comes with a two-speaker stereo, while the 2500 has two or six speakers depending on cab configuration.
